The elements making up the landscape, the lake and the fallen birch tree in this cabinet-format painting, paired with the particular stillness of the misty surroundings, make this a typical work of the St. Petersburg painter, watercolourist, graphic artist and book illustrator, Pisemsky. He enjoyed great popularity during his lifetime and exhibited frequently.
